Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated WordPress Developer. Reporting to the Director of Digital Operations, you will be a key player in shaping MDG's technological future. At MDG, we are revolutionizing the multi-location marketing landscape with our proprietary digital product. You'll contribute to building high-availability, scalable, and performant solutions that empower multi-location organizations to effectively reach and engage their target audiences. Your work will directly impact the success of our clients and shape the future of multi-location marketing.
MDG follows a hybrid work model of Monday/Friday remote and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in our Boca Raton office. Our scheduled work hours are 9a-6p.
- 5+ years of experience in full stack web development
- Contributes to all phases of the development cycle, including project estimation
- Provides peer-level review of strategy and code
- Able to work independently and in small teams
- Communicates and reports on the status and requirements with other teams (in-house and remote)
- Mentors, educates, and motivates junior team members
- Adheres and contributes to standards, automations, and best practices
- Manages trade-offs between development speed and quality

Requirements - Experience in digital marketing
- Implements SEO best practices
- A working knowledge of HTML, CSS, CSS pre-processors (LESS and SASS), native JavaScript, jQuery, and MySQL/MariaDB
- Experience in digital marketing
- Experience working with HTML5 and CSS3 features; implements fall-backs for features unavailable in older browsers and on older devices
- Ability to transform static designs from Photoshop, Sketch, and Zeplin to responsive HTML5 web pages
- Experience with React JS, Angular, Node.js, and XSL are a plus
- Experience developing in current PHP MVC frameworks (Laravel 5.6+) and has an understanding of MVC principles is a plus
- Expertise in developing and optimizing the Document Object Model and CSS layout, render-tree construction (HTML parsing, paint, rendering, and compositing)
- Experience developing on both LAMP and LEMP stacks
- Familiarity developing with and maintaining codebases on Microsoft IIS, .NET (C#, ASP.NET), and MSSQL Server are a plus
- Experience in developing and maintaining custom and requirements-driven WordPress themes and plugins from scratch. Has familiarity of core WordPress classes and functions. Does not depend on third-party themes/child themes and plugins to develop WordPress websites. Experience with WordPress multi-site is a plus.
- Working with Git version control
- Utilizes both object-oriented programming (OOP) and functional programming
- Experience interfacing and developing web applications with JavaScript and server-side (PHP) client libraries/APIs/SDKs (RESTful and SOAP)
- Familiar with debugging and reverse engineering codebases without elaborate problem descriptions
- Familiarity with profiling code execution, both server-side (using tools such as Xdebug) and client-side (using tools such as Google Searchlight and Runtime Performance audit in DevTools)
- Experience using third-party profiling tools, including Google PageSpeed Insights and Pingdom, to optimize website performance, and understands how to implement recommendations from these tools
- Experience with secure coding principles and best practices for web applications; familiar with and implements measures against common security vulnerabilities, such as XSS
- Has worked with marketing platforms including Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Google Search Console
- Experience working in Scrum and other agile development methodologies
- Experience with package managers (Composer, NPM)
- Experience setting up and maintaining LAMP and LEMP servers, both dedicated and virtualized (notably Red Hat, CentOS, and Ubuntu distributions); familiarity with the linux command line, setting up active traffic and performance monitoring solutions, optimizing PHP-FPM pools and tuning Apache/Nginx configurations based on server load and CPU and I/O utilization; ensuring software versions are up to date and security patches are applied promptly; install and test custom software
- Create and implement database specifications, design models, and queries to meet the functional requirements of custom web applications
- Ensures code rigidity and compatibility by testing all use cases (and includes edge cases into function design) and ensures code accuracy in QA. Applies to designed web pages (responsive layouts and cross-browser/device testing), front-end code, and back-end code
- Familiarity with writing custom or framework-driven RESTful APIs is a plus
- Familiarity with deployments to AWS is a plus
- Experience developing with eCommerce platforms (Magento) is a plus
