Overview

Be part of the nation's only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Execting opportunities for paid Internships at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a great opportunity for an emerging junior or senior college student who is ambitious and looking for a unique growth opportunity.

The WIPP underground facilities comprise a mine constructed and maintained at a depth of 2,150 feet below the surface within the Salado Formation found in southeastern New Mexico. This formation is primarily composed of evaporates to include halite (rock salts) common to the Permian Basin region of the Southwestern United States. The formation also includes a number of clay seams (layers) at various depths throughout the formation. The underground facility (the mine) serves as a permanent storage facility for transuranic nuclear waste which is a by-product of the nation's nuclear weapons production programs.

Responsibilities

Summer internships are available in a variety of disciplines, which may include:

• Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Mine, Electrical, Civil, etc.)

• Procurement

• Accounting

• Operations

• Chemical Engineering/Chemistry

• Plant Maintenance

• Human Resources

• Communications and Public Relations

• Industrial Safety and Hygiene

• Project Management

• Radiological Control

• Fire Protection

• Business Administration

• Emergency Management and Security

Interns will be required to prepare and deliver a presentation about their experience before the end of the summer.

Minimum Requirements

These requirements must be met to be considered for this posting. Uploaded resumes and completed applications are the means of determination.

• Must be in a degree program that is relevant to the project.

• Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college/university (high school students enrolled in college classes are not eligible).

• Must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

• Must have completed at least 60 credit hours toward a degree and have a Junior or Senior classification.

• Must supply a current copy of your college transcript.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

This is a paid internship at $30 per hour. Company reimbursement is available for some travel expenses, as outlined in policy: however, housing and per diem for the full internship period is not included.
