This internship is for May – August 2024, but earlier start dates may be accommodated. In this position, you will be supporting the Combat Mission Systems (CMS) Business at our Minneapolis, MN facility.
BAE Systems is a leader in the defense industry, and currently has a need for a Structural Analysis intern, who will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment performing engineering analysis tasks for one or more areas of CMS product lines. You will perform roles similar in nature to our entry-level engineers, applying basic engineering analytical theory, principles, techniques and practices for analysis and development of defense related product applications.
As a Structural Analysis Intern, you will:
- Assist product analysis team senior engineering personnel in planning and carrying out structural analyses using fundamental engineering principles, theories and practices.
- Assist with the creation and documentation of finite element models using ABAQUS and Hypermesh.
- Assist with the creation of, provide inputs to, and make revisions to technical documentation, reports, papers, or presentations.
- Maintain professional relationships with company employees, clients and customers, both internal and external.
- Keep management abreast of progress and pending problems.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills - Must be a US Person
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university in the Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
- Completed the equivalent of at least the Junior year of undergraduate studies in an engineering program, with a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA.
- Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant field of specialization
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience with Structural Analysis software, such as ABAQUS or ANSYS.Familiarity with MS Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills - Ability to research and apply mechanical or aerospace engineering principles and theories to solve engineering problems.
- Motivated self-starter with leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrates sincere interest in engineering through previous experiences such as extracurricular activities, internships, projects, etc.
- Excellent problem solving skills, judgment, and analytical capability.
- Ability to close on discrete tasking in a timely manner.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in Creo, ANSYS, ABAQUS, or MATLAB is a plus
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $48620 - $65670
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
