EXPERIENCED ROOFER
Nanaimo, BC
Full-time or part-time SEASONAL
Hourly: $19 - $35
Do you enjoy fixing up houses and helping people in your community? Certified & experienced roofers are needed all year round, especially during the rainy season when a lot of homeowners realize their roof has sprung a leak. Not only will you have an opportunity to work on residential and commercial buildings, but you will become familiar with installations methods for installing a certified Duro-Last roofing system. Ideal candidate will be interested in completing the apprenticeship program and long-term opportunity for growth. As a roofer, you will work as part of a spirited team that knows how to get a job done but also when to have fun.
Essential Job Functions
Certification in roofing or relevant construction experience
At least 18 years old
Reliable transportation
Ability to lift heavy loads up to 70 lbs.
Operate machinery safely
Ladder safety and ability to climb to heights and work with proper safety restraints
Education/Preferred Experience
Knowledge of different types of roofing systems
Knowledge of building ordinances
Two years of experience working as a roofer
Interested in completing the Apprenticeship program
Fall Protection certification is required before hired - can do online
WHMIS Certification is required before hire - can do online
Basic First Aid is encouraged
Responsibilities
Perform inspections to pinpoint roofing issues and establish the best methods of reparation
Set up necessary equipment and scaffolding and clear out vegetation, debris and other obstacles in preparation of roofing projects
Familiarity of Roofing systems and types of material necessary for roofing projects
Install insulation and waterproof materials according to the best practices for each project’s particular roofing system
Skills and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of three years’ experience in the roofing field
Physically fit with the ability to lift and carry loads up to 60 pounds and work in varying temperatures and weather conditions
Knowledge of roofing procedures, materials and tools
A valid driver’s license and solid driving history
Ability to work safely at heights
Ability to work within a team and meet deadlines
Work location/Schedule
Works regular day shifts with some evening and weekend work, as well as on-call work. This position requires frequent local travel to construction locations; therefore a valid driver’s license and clean driving record are necessary. On occasion their will be out of town and province work.
