SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the CAD Designer II will support the engineering team in designing and supplying material handling systems, including unit/package handling, bulk material handling, and automated conveying solutions. The role involves translating engineering concepts into detailed CAD drawings, layouts, and digital models to support project execution. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, production, and sales teams to create accurate, constructible designs and ensure seamless project delivery.
JOB DUTIES: Design Support: \n - Develop detailed CAD drawings, layouts, assemblies, and digital models of material handling systems such as unit/package conveyors, bulk material handling equipment, and automated solutions.
\n - Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to translate design concepts and field data into accurate engineering drawings adhering to customer requirements and industry standards.
\n - Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and assist with maintaining design documentation and revision control.
\n - Customize CAD models to represent complex or non-standard components and integrate automated equipment interfaces where applicable.
\n - Create prototypes and conduct digital simulations to verify design feasibility and support engineering validation.
\n - Utilize 3D point cloud scanning data to create and refine accurate 3D models, ensuring precise representation of existing site conditions and equipment layouts.
\n - Use software tools such as Autodesk ReCap to process and manage point cloud data for integration into design workflows.

Project Assistance: \n - Support project coordination by providing timely and accurate CAD deliverables for multiple concurrent projects.
\n - Assist with site measurement data consolidation and incorporation into designs.
\n - Help track project documentation status and update drawings as engineering changes occur.

Collaboration: \n - Interface with engineers, production, purchasing, and sales teams to clarify design details, resolve technical questions, and ensure alignment of CAD outputs with project goals.
\n - Communicate effectively to provide technical clarifications and updates to stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement: \n - Identify opportunities to enhance CAD drafting standards, template libraries, and workflow efficiencies.
\n - Stay up-to-date with CAD software advancements and new tools relevant to material handling system design.
\n

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: \n - High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree, technical diploma, or post-secondary coursework in CAD, drafting, or a related field preferred.
\n - 5+ years of experience in CAD drafting/design supporting mechanical engineering projects in material handling and industrial automation systems.
\n - Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
\n - Experience in handling 3D point cloud scanning data and using Autodesk ReCap or for processing scan data and integrating it into 3D modeling.
\n - Familiarity with creating engineering drawings, layouts, assemblies, and BOMs for mechanical systems.
\n - Basic understanding of material handling equipment and components is required.
\n - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: \n - Strong attention to detail and high-quality output standards.
\n - Good problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team environment.
\n - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
\n - Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: \n - May require site visits for field measurements and coordination with engineering staff.
\n - Work performed in both office and field environments, requiring adaptability to different working conditions.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: None specifically required. Certification in CAD software or drafting is beneficial.

Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired at Motion, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
- Compensation is from $68,000 to $88,000 annually
