Req ID:26767 Vacancy Type: Permanent Number of Positions:2 Closing Date:07/25/2025 Job Summary We are currently seeking two highly skilled Communications Advisors to join our Strategic Communications & Initiatives (SC&I) team in Mississauga. This is not a marketing position, and we require someone with direct experience and exceptional communications management skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic advice to operational project leaders, developing communications strategies and implementing tactics for various initiatives. This position reports to the Supervisor, PR and City Communications. As a Communications Advisor, your responsibilities will include recommending, developing, and implementing internal and external communications along with media, organic social media and issues management that align with the City of Mississauga's strategic plan, department action and business plans.In this role, you will collaborate within your division, client groups and senior leaders throughout the organization, providing day-to-day functional guidance and communications support. You will develop communications strategies and plans, key messages, inclusive and relatable information as well as innovative approaches to storytelling. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Develop and implement strategic communication plans within budget. Research and analyze target audiences for projects and recommend appropriate strategies to achieve business goals. Write high-quality content in Canadian Press style (e.g. news releases, key messages, social media posts, media stories, feature articles, speeches, newsletter copy, staff messages, signage, advertising) that support the business service areas. Provide strategic communications support for community engagement projects. Monitor trends and issues affecting the City, research current and emerging Communications technologies and practices, and identify opportunities to improve communication approaches. Work collaboratively and proactively with inter-departmental teams, and senior leaders and external working groups/community committees as required. Provide functional guidance to juniorstaff, contract staff, students, freelance suppliers/vendors, volunteers and consultants. Proactively identify and mitigate potential issues and support the City during crisis management and response. Perform other related duties as assigned.
